Mini golf is low-pressure, so you don’t need much to have a great first round. Most courses provide the essentials (putter, ball, scorecard, and pencil), but a few smart extras can make the experience more comfortable and keep the game moving.
At check-in, you’ll typically receive a putter sized for adults or kids and a ball (sometimes a color choice). Many places also offer a scorecard, pencil, and simple rules for pace of play. If you’re going with a group, one person can carry the scorecard while everyone focuses on putting.
Bring (and wear) comfortable, closed-toe shoes with good grip. Mini golf involves small ramps, stairs, and occasionally slick surfaces, so stable footwear helps. Dress for the weather: a light jacket for evenings, breathable clothes for hot afternoons, and something you don’t mind bending and stretching in.
For outdoor courses, pack sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat. A small bottle of water is a must, especially in warm weather. Bug spray can be useful near ponds or landscaped areas. If you’re going at night, a phone flashlight can help you spot dropped balls in darker corners.
A small crossbody bag or pocket essentials are ideal. Carry your phone for photos and score tracking, plus a card or cash for admission and snacks. If you have kids, consider a few wipes and a small hand sanitizer to clean up after shared equipment or snack breaks.

Most 18-hole rounds take about 45–90 minutes, depending on group size and how busy the course is. Going during off-peak times can make the round faster and more relaxed.
